Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) paid an official visit to Oppstar Technology on 8 March 2022. UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Ts Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, was also joined by Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research & Innovation Prof. Dr. Rosli Md Illias, Dean of Innovative Engineering Research Alliance Prof. Dr. Abu Sahmah Mohd Supa'at, Chair of Sekolah Kejuruteraan Elektrik (SKE) Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Wazir Mustafa, Prof. Dr. Hafis Izran, Prof. Dr. Nadzir and few more officers in their visit to Oppstar Technology Headquarter in Bukit Jambul, Penang.
The group from UTM was welcomed by Oppstar's CEO Mr. Ng Meng Thai and CTO Mr. Cheah Hun Wah. Upon their arrival, the honourable guests from UTM were taken on a tour of Oppstar design centre. Throughout the tour, they were also briefed on some of the latest achievements accomplished by Oppstar in the area of IC design, Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In the visit, Oppstar shared current outlook of global semiconductor industry as well as opportunities and challenges that Malaysia IC design companies are facing. Both parties acknowledged that talent is one of the key that drive the success of local IC design industry. UTM and Oppstar are looking at more Industry-Academia collaboration in near future to further nurture talents and bridge the supply-demand gap of Malaysia IC design workforce.
